When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

Thanks Karmen - it IS a beautiful place, and we only discovered it on this visit, after we have been going to that area every year for the last 12 years! The weather was terrible, but we did manage to get out for some small walks - the rain came again about 10 minutes after this was taken.

The mountains are really quite majestic in the background. I love how the light fades and how it transforms into that brooding darkness in a graduated way. The contrasts are palpable and create a real sense of drama. I am curious if you used some shadow highlight adjustment in the lower half of the image. I find myself wondering how would it be if the lower foreground mound just in front of the trees were darkened just a tad? I have the idea that it would sympathetically mirror the darkness at the top of the image and perhaps add another zest of containment? Despite my curiosity, it's an instant fave for me and a delightful image. -- "I don't have a photograph, but you can have my footprints. They're upstairs in my socks." Groucho Marx, from A Day At The Races. Thanks so much for your detailed and thoughtful comment Eugene. I'm very pleased that you like this so much - your reasons reflect my own. I can see what you are saying about darkening the lower foreground, and indeed I did bring that area down a little - I will revisit and see if a touch more will bring the improvement you are suggesting.
